Things To Remember When Travelling Abroad

Planning a trip abroad is such an exciting prospect. So exciting in fact, that it can be easy to forget even the simplest of suitcase essentials. In order to avoid any holiday hiccups, create a list of items to take and loose ends to tie up well in advance of the departure date. By doing this in advance, you will be sure to create a thorough list whilst in a sane set of mind.

Top of the list is passport; you're not going anywhere if this is left on the bed while your panicking at the airport. The proportion of those who turn up to the airport and suddenly realise what they have forgotten never ceases to amaze.

Make sure you avoid the passport hysterics, and have it ready to go in a place you know you will remember to pick it up: remember, sometimes a “safe place” can be too safe. Place it in sight, or somewhere you know you will be before you leave the house.
So you've managed to get on the plane and arrive at your destination. Now what? No money or travellers' cheques. Even if you manage to get there, if you forget to pack the dough you're not going to get much further.

Although there will no doubt be a way to access an emergency stash of money (by phoning the travellers cheque provider, or using credit cards), you don't want to spend the first week of a holiday on the phone or scrimping on the hotel mini-bar.

With the development of atm software across the world, and the universal nature of many debit and credit cards, it is worth bringing them along for the trip. In fact, if you are able to make transactions or withdraw money form overseas cash machines, this can be an efficient alternative to carrying large sums of money.

Other less crucial, though nevertheless significant items to remember include the digital camera to capture the holiday memories, the camera charger to make sure it doesn't run out of battery, and a travel adapter to ensure your charger fits the socket. Miss any one of these three items and you may return home with five photos of the hotel exterior.
