Ban Gioc is one of the most greatest and beautiful waterfalls in Vietnam which located in Cao Bang Province – Northern highlands of Vietnam. As a Fixer in Vietnam, I have a chance to visit this waterfall often because many photographers and film makers want to film and photograph this amazing waterfall.
Ban Gioc shares border with China, one side is in Vietnam and the other is in China. Visitors and film makers can visit Ban Gioc any time of the year. But in my opinion as a photographer and a Film Fixer in Vietnam, I think the most beautiful time to visit Ban Gioc is during harvesting season. Or maybe a little bit earlier would be fine when the rice is fully grown.
During harvesting season, all the rice fields in the foreground will be turning yellow, yellowist and most colorful. The foreground makes compliment the waterfall even more and will be more photogenic for filming. During this time, Vietnamese photographers and tourists flock into this district to visit Ban Gioc waterfall.

Hi every one. As aFixer in Vietnamand a travel photographer who has been traveling around Vietnam since 2007, I would like to write this article to help you who love photography and want to know more about Tra Vinh Province so you can travel there alone and find interesting things to photograph.
Tra Vinh is one of my favorite locations in theMekong Delta. I have been here so many times since I first started learning photography. The diversity of subject and culture in this province give me great photography oppoturnity. Even though not many tourists visit this area, I think it’s very photogenic and you can definately get some great pics if you visit this province.

Ba Om Pond is one of the most well-known location to local people. The local people will gather here in the early morning and afternoon walking around. The pond also has lotus and very nice at night. It’s great for street photography and night photography here. It’s located just a few kilometers away from Tra Vinh City Center. Easy to find.
It’s a cambodian pagoda and what interested me most is that the monks here will do wood carving and sell that to visitors to produce enough profit to keep the pagoda alive. If you come here, you will see the monks here making beautiful wood products. Some are giantic. It’s very nice and photogenic. A great location for photography in Tra Vinh City.
What else to shoot in Tra Vinh City? In the early morning, you just get out of the city and go to the ouskirt. It’s beautiful there and you will see the true picture of this province.
Another great activity that I love to photography in Tra Vinh is Salt harvesting in Duyen Hai District. But it’s too bad that the village had disappeared after the coal plant operated.
What else to shoot in Tra Vinh? I think you must stay at least one night in Duyen Hai district to visit Ba Dong Beach in the early morning. it’s great for Milky way photography at night also. Since it’s a coastal town, you will have plenty of chance to shoot beach and fishing acitivities.
I really love shooting fishing activities in Duyen Hai district because the local fishermen still use traditional fishing method to catch fish. It doesn’t require a boat to catch fish.

First of all, as a FilmFixer in VietnamI have traveled around Vietnam for so many years and keep exploring new locations for my clients. And also as a professionalPhotographer in Vietnam, this article will be based on my perspective as a photographer. If you are someone who loves photography and planning to travel to Da Lat and looking for some beautiful attractions to photograph during your trip, this one is for you.
Da Lat is a great place for landscape photography. So I would recommend you some locations that you may love to photograph first.
1/ The greenhouses before sunset.
Actually you can shoot here at sunrise and around blue hours when the greenhouses light up which creates beautiful scenery. Like the photo below, I captured before sunset.
And if you are intrested in shooting local people daily style, you must visit Cau Dat tea plantation. It’s great for landscape photography, but also great to capture the local farmers picking tea leaves during harvest season. The local farmers harvest the tea leaves every morning there. You must look around to find them.
Another great place for photography is Tuyen Lam Lake. The lake is very large, you must travel and cross to the lake side and may requires some treking to get to the spot. It’s around 10 minutes crossing the forest, but you should wear proper shoes and the wet environment may cause discomfort. May advice is that you must go there in day time and explore the area first, the next morning be there around 5AM is perfect.
What more? Around the city is also beautiful, there are some churches and Da Lat Train station, Da Lat market are also great for street photography. If you love street photography, I suggest you to visit Da Lat market.
How to get to Da Lat:
Take a Futa Sleeper Bus at night and you will be there in the morning. Book in advance because during weekend may be crowded.
Where to stay in Da Lat:
To answer this question, it must be depend on your budget. You can book it on Agoda or Booking. If your budget are tight, you can stay on Nam Ky Khoi Nghia. There are cheap hotel as low as $10 per night.
Getting around Da Lat:
The best way is to rent a motor scooter for around 150 per day. You will have to pay for gasoline.

Fixer in Vietnam– Shooting Local Fishermen before Sunrise at Ba Dong Beach – Duyen Hai District – theMekong Delta– Vietnam.
This time, as aFixer in Vietnam, my clients asked me to get them to somewhere in Vietnam to film local fishermen preparing for their catch before sunrise. But the clients also want somewhere not too far from Ho Chi Minh City. There are some options and locations that we could visit. But I recommended them to visit Ba Dong Beach because it’s one of the most beautiful coastal district in theMekong Deltato shoot sunrise.
The location is convenience and only 3 hours from Ho Chi Minh City. The texture of the sandy beach every morning when the water withdraw makes the beach more beautiful and the reflection is amazing. They all make this beach amazing for filming and photography.
Another great thing about this coastal town is that the local fishermen still use traditional fishing method to catch fish. It’s incredible and interesting to film.
So after everything was set. I picked up my clients in Ho Chi Minh City and then we went to Duyen Hai District. We stayed there one night and the next morning we got up at 5AM and went to Ba Dong Beach waiting for the sun to rise and began to film.

Fixer in Vietnam– Watermelon farming in Duyen Hai district; a coastal district of Tra Vinh Province – TheMekong Delta– Vietnam.
As aFixer in Vietnam, I was requested by my clients who want to film the local farmers in theMekong Deltaharvesting their crop. So I suggested them to visit Duyen Hai District to see the watermelon fields during harvesting season. The watermelon is farmed widely in this district along the sandy beach of Ba Dong. The fruit is super cheap in this region, you can buy as many as 20kg for 1 USD.
So I picked my clients up in Ho Chi Minh City then headed to Tra Vinh, We took our time to visit some pagodas in the city first and then later went to Duyen Hai. We spent the whole afternoon filming local farmers harvesting the melon and trucks parked along the road waiting to load them and distribute around theMekong Delta.
After that, we also went to film sunrise at Ba Dong Beach. This region is amazing for film makers to film documentary about agriculture in the Mekong Delta. If you are planning to make ones, let me know. I’m here to help.

Sapa is a beautiful town located approximately 300km away from Ha Noi and belongs to Northwest Higland region. It’s well-known location to tourists and photographers in Vietnam. It used to be a vacation home of the French rulers in the past.
Sapa not only has beautiful sceneries but also very diverse in culture and minority ethnic groups. Photographers come here for cherry flowers during spring and the famous lake during winter. Hikers come here to explore and trek the Fansifang mountain. As a FilmFixer in Vietnam, I often travel to Sapa with my clients to film and photograph during planting season, harvesting, and spring season to film flowers and more.
There are some beautiful minority groups in Sapa, such as: Flower Hmong, Black Hmong, Lu, Dao, Red Dao..
During planting season, the whole town will be busy, especially the farmers. During that time, photographers come here to photograph the planting and the reflection of water on the rice terraces.
So this time, I traveled there with my clients to film the lake, and cherry flowers. It quite cold at some point. At night the temperature dropped down to -1 degree celcius.
That Morning the weather was quite calm and no wind at all which created perfect environment for us to film the lake.
We also took our chance to visit my Red Dao friend to film her family. The Red People normally live on mountains top. We had to travel through winding road after winding road to get to her village. The family were gathering by the fire to fight the cold.
The Red Dao people are good at knitting and handcrafting. They make beautiful handcraft and embroidery products to sell for tourists making a living. They costumes are colorful and beautiful. They have beautiful wedding ceremony and culture and they speak their own language also.
Tra Su Forest located about 20km away from Chau Doc City. It’s not very large but is great place to get around. The best way to explore the forest is to take a boat trip.
Local tourists love this place and come here during weekend. There are some rest stops that sell local specialty around the forest. It would be very interesting to take a rowing boat and get around the forest watching birds.

Every year when it starts to rain, the rice terraces in the Northern highlands will wait until they get enough water for sowing and plowing. Then the planting season begin in the northern highlands. Unlike theMekong Deltaor other part of the north where local farmers normally plant 2-3 crops a year, in this particular region, local farmers only plant 1 crop a year due to lack of water and extreme weather.
Planting season in the northern highlands of Vietnam usually starts from April to early May. During this time, it’s photos hunting season for Photographers around Vietnam to come to this region. The rice terraces filled with water giving beautiful reflection. This region still use water buffalos for plowing. As aFilm Fixer in Vietnam, I come here every planting and harvesting season with my clients to photograph and film this beautiful region.
I just came home from a long trip to the northern parts of Vietnam and some parts already planted such as: Lai Chau, Phu Tho. If you are interested in shooting this beautiful season, you can come to Vietnam now and until May. Here are a few photos that I shot during the trip with my clients before. The weather was not very good. We only visited Bat Xat and Y Ty and some villages in the areas.
Long Hai is a coastal village in along the south central coast. The fishing village located right at Long Hai Beach and also close to Long Hai fish market where local fishermen load off tons of fish every morning. Every morning, the local fishermen will use rounded boats to load off the sandy beach their catch. After that, the fish will be sold right away and then distribute to the fish market closeby.
It’s an interesting and photogenic spot for photographers and film makers to photograph and film local people life along Vietnam coast. Visitors can have a chance to witness how fish are caught and distribute around the coast of Vietnam. It’s very colorful and interesting to photograph and film these activities. Vietnamese people daily life along the coast is very nice and interesting.

U Minh Thuong National Park is a wet land that located about 40km away fromRach GiaCity –Kien GiangProvince – The Mekong Delta. It’s a massive park that home to thousand of fish and birds.
As aFixer in Vietnam, I traveled there with my clients to film the park making the Mekong Atlas. The park is not very popular to tourists and only local people come here during weekend.
Visitors can take a boat trip about 3 hours to get deeper into the forest and watch thousand of birds there. It’s a great place for scientists, bird watcher.. to visit.
