Drone Pilot – Can you bring a drone into Vietnam

I get asked this questions a lot; personally, email, and whatsapp. So I will take my time to write this article hoping to answer it as clear as possible for those who plan to bring their drones into Vietnam during their vacation time here. 

Can you Bring a Drone into Vietnam internationally? Yes, If you arrive at Tan Son Nhat international airport and Noi Bai airport. That would be no problem at all. My customers who join my Vietnam Photo Tours brough his drone into Vietnam multiple times when he traveled with me. 

Can you Bring your drone flying around Vietnam domestically ? Yes, No problem. I do that thousand of times. 

What if you are going to arrive at Da Nang airport? Can you get your drone through Da Nang international airport? 

There is rumor that drones will be seized at Da Nang international Airport but I have not personally experienced that or neither have my customers, so I may not have a clear answer in this case. But I do meet some westerners who flew their drone in Da Nang. I’m not assuming that he could get through.

Vietnam Photo Tours – Mountain tribe and flowers

Vietnam Photo Tours – Mountain tribe and flowers. 

This was a 16 day Vietnam Photo Tour with my customers exploring the northern part of Vietnam during flower blooming season. It’s one of the most beautiful season to capture flowers in this region. 

I picked my customers at Noi Bai internationl airport and then began to explore Ha Noi for a few days. After that, we headed to the northern part and began to explore it. 

One of my favorite location was in Lai Chau. We were able to shoot another Dao Tribe in this region. This Dao people has more unique costumes than the Red Dao that visitors normally see in Sapa. The road to the village is rough but it’s worth the visit. 

Another great place that we visited is in Dong Van district – Ha Giang. In the photo above, my customers was shooting a Dao Dau Mang woman in her traditional costumes. 

The temperature during this time is quite cold. It drops down to 4-6 degree celcius and up to 12 at day time. So if you are planning to explore Dong Van, you should have a warm jacket, waterproof boots would work great. 

best transporation to get around Dong Van should be motor scooter.

This was a 16 day Vietnam Photo Tour around the northern highlands with my customers last month. We planed to visit these beautiful tea plantation in Moc Chau and other tribal villages to shoot the peach and plum flowers since it was blooming season. 

Moc Chau is an amazing place for landscape photography and if you want to photograph misty morning, it’s the best place.

My customers and I got up quite early and depart to the tea plantation above. It required us some walking to the hill side so we stood there and waited for the sun to came up. 

After that, tea workers got to the plantation and began to water the teas in the morning.

Fixer in Vietnam – Water Lily Pond in the Mekong Delta – Vietnam. 

As a Local Fixer in Vietnam, this time I and my client traveled to Chau Doc – The Mekong Delta to film and photograph the water lily lady who owns the 1km pond and she harvests the water lilies every morning and sell it to resellers and later the water lilies will be sold at local market. 

We’re lucky that the weather was good and a lot of flowers were blooming during that time. The pond was full of flowers.

This was a ten day Vietnam Photo Tour with my customers who were from Australia. I picked them up in Ho Chi Minh City and then travel along the southern coast up to the central coast. By the time we got to Tuy Hoa, it’s one day prior to the supertypoon Ha Long before it reached the region. The weather was calm one day before that but the sea waves were big and high. It’s literally calm before the storm. After shooting the pic, we move to Quy Nhon and it began to rain heavily since.

Fixer in vietnam – Filming Cao Pho tribal Market – Dong Van – Ha Giang – Vietnam. Pho Cao Tribal Market – Dong Van. This market located about 30km away from Dong Van district and it takes roughly around around 1 hour 30 minutes to get there from Dong Van. Unlike Dong Van Tribal market which takes place every sunday. This market will be held every 6 days per week. For example, if it takes place on sunday this week, the next week will be on Saturday. The market is quite busy and crowded at the entrance and along the street. I did not have much time exploring this market, I spent most of my time around one corner and photographed these photos. This is my aerial filming project for my clients which took place in the Mekong Delta – Vietnam. We went there before the lunar new year so it will be the busiest time of the year when farmers ready to distribute the flowers around the Mekong Delta and will be sold for Tet decoration purpose. Flower Hmong Tribe in Bac Ha

Bac Ha is a small town located in Lao Cai Province about 2 hours away from Sapa district. Bac Ha is home to thousands of Hmong flowers and Bac Ha market is most well-known market in the entire province of Lao Cai. 

As a Fixer in Vietnam, I traveled with my clients to Bac Ha during spring flowers to see plum flower blooming and filming it along with the local people daily life. 

During this time, the plum flowers cover the whole town and the Flower Hmong ready to plow their soil and begin to sow for a new crop. Here are a few behind the scene photos that I shot during the trip.

Ban Gioc Waterfall

Ban Gioc is one of the most greatest and beautiful waterfalls in Vietnam which located in Cao Bang Province – Northern highlands of Vietnam. As a Fixer in Vietnam, I have a chance to visit this waterfall often because many photographers and film makers want to film and photograph this amazing waterfall. 

Ban Gioc shares border with China, one side is in Vietnam and the other is in China. Visitors and film makers can visit Ban Gioc any time of the year. But in my opinion as a photographer and a Film Fixer in Vietnam, I think the most beautiful time to visit Ban Gioc is during harvesting season. Or maybe a little bit earlier would be fine when the rice is fully grown. 

During harvesting season, all the rice fields in the foreground will be turning yellow, yellowist and most colorful. The foreground makes compliment the waterfall even more and will be more photogenic for filming. During this time, Vietnamese photographers and tourists flock into this district to visit Ban Gioc waterfall.
